Lucas Chevalier, the 26-year-old goalkeeper for the French national team, joined Paris Saint-Germain from Lille during the summer transfer window on a contract until 2030. The player shared his first thoughts on the Parisian club’s website just minutes after the deal was made official.

Chevalier: “I’m a kid who’s living his dream.”

“I’m a kid who’s living his dream. Ever since I was little, I’ve wanted to play at the highest level. I’d like to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos, coach Luis Enrique and his staff, and everyone who worked to bring me to Paris Saint-Germain.

It’s a great joy to be here. I will wear this jersey with love and ambition. It’s a huge source of pride. This is clearly a new milestone in my career. I’m moving up to the next level, and it was important for me to do it now. I felt that it was the right time. I think my family and friends are very proud of me. We’ve felt very, very good since we arrived.”

Chevalier “Everything is here”

Everything is here. It’s a club that wanted the Champions League and won it last season because it deserved it. When the best team of the year, perhaps even the best team in the world right now, calls you, it’s hard to say no.

The staff, the training conditions, the management… everything is top notch. I’m an ambitious player, I know I can achieve great things. And here in Paris, staying in France after three successful seasons in Lille, it was the right time. Everything was in place for me to come. As soon as the club approached me, I knew I wanted to come here.

Chevalier: “I think it’s symbolic: a French goalkeeper in Paris.”

I think it’s symbolic: a French goalkeeper in Paris is always a positive thing. I come from the north, so the proximity to the capital also made my choice easier. There’s the language, of course. Even though there are a lot of foreign players here, I think they’re very well integrated. Everything is done to help us quickly acclimatize to the culture and environment. My family will be nearby, and I’ll have good conditions to progress…

When I weighed up the pros and cons, there were a lot of pros. So yes, I think it’s beneficial for me, for the club, and also for the national team. It strengthens the image of the league, and I hope it will allow me to perform at the highest level. I can’t wait to see the fans at the Parc, I’ll give it my all. Together, we’ll win many titles. This is Paris!”

These are touching first words from a player who seems very human in his approach to life. He has a huge opportunity to make history. He is on the right track with PSG, which is a pleasure to watch. He should flourish, and we welcome him.

Of course, we can’t wait to see him make his debut on the pitch and, above all, show what he’s capable of. In Paris, the pressure will be immense, and it will be up to him to control and overcome it.
