This Monday evening (9pm French time), Paris Saint-Germain (2nd) take on the Seattle Sounders (4th) at Lumen Field on Matchday 3 of the 2025 World Cup group stage. A must-win match to ensure qualification, but the group has many possible outcomes. Paris could even reach the Round of 8 (top two qualify) without a win.
The group:
PSG will be first if:
Victory against Seattle Sounders with Atlético Madrid success against Botafogo, but without Paris being caught on goal difference (of the three matches involving PSG, Atlético and Botafogo (+3 versus -4 at the moment).
PSG will be second if :
Victory against Seattle and Atlético Madrid doesn’t win against Botafogo.
Or:
Victory against Seattle and Atlético Madrid wins but without catching Paris on goal difference in the three matches involving PSG, Atlético and Botafogo (+3 vs. -4).
Or:
Draw against Seattle and Atlético Madrid fails to win against Botafogo.
Or:
Defeat against Seattle without this team catching up with the goal difference of the three matches involving these two teams and Atlético (+4 against -2) and Atlético loses against Botafogo.
PSG eliminated if :
Draw against Seattle and Atlético Madrid wins against Botafogo.
Or :
Defeat against Seattle and Atlético Madrid draws against Botafogo.
Or :
Defeat against Seattle and Atlético Madrid also loses, but the American club overtakes Paris on goal difference in the three matches involving these two teams and Atlético (+4 against -2).
