This Sunday evening, at the end of the Club World Cup quarter-finals, FIFA unveiled the team of the tournament. Paris Saint-Germain, who beat Bayern Munich 2-0, have 3 players in this selection.
Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old full-back), João Neves (20-year-old midfielder) and Désiré Doué (20-year-old midfielder/striker) are no great surprises in this model team, even if all the choices are still debatable given the competition. Hakimi was once again impressive overall, with a crucial late-match assist to reward him. Neves was on hand to set up the opening goal, and played a very complete game around it.
Doué was less consistent, his selection less “obvious”. But he still scored a fine goal. And that’s what counts, especially when it comes to breaking the deadlock in what was a highly competitive match. Perhaps other players could have been present (Gianluigi Donnarumma? Nuno Mendes? Marquinhos?), but Paris suffered all the same, and there’s a lot of competition in this tournament.
