In an interview with GQ, Ousmane Dembélé, the 28-year-old Paris Saint-Germain striker, was asked to explain what coach Luis Enrique has brought to the team since his arrival in 2023.
Dembélé: “It’s the right path.”
“Above all, Luis Enrique has brought a new mentality, both to me and to the whole team. He told us to train like we play in matches, to always lead by example and give our all on the pitch, whether we’re the youngest or the most experienced players.
I just follow the coach’s instructions, you know. You have to run, defend, and attack all together. If you don’t, someone else will take your place! It’s the right path. It’s worked for us, and we’ve won all these titles that way.”
This is further confirmation of the mindset instilled by coach Luis Enrique, with the help of sporting advisor Luis Campos, as the philosophy is clear from the recruitment stage. It’s not the first time we’ve seen such statements, almost verbatim. Clearly, the Parisians know the competition is fierce. There’s no status or age limit.
You have to play for the team, and with quality, of course. Otherwise, the coach will choose someone else. It’s great for a team; the key is having players who fully embrace the philosophy. This can slow down some recruitment, even though from the outside, some “logical” targets might seem obvious.
But Paris won’t change, regardless of talent. Especially since, it must be emphasized, the current players are fully committed to Luis Enrique’s philosophy. Dembélé’s statement about “the path to follow” is clear.”
