Gianluigi Donnarumma, the 25-year-old goalkeeper, did not take part in Saturday’s 1-0 victory over Lens on Matchday 10 of Ligue 1. However, in an interview with Sportmediaset, he talked about his dream of playing for PSG and the criticism he regularly receives.
Donnarumma “ I feel like one of the leaders of the team and I dream of winning the Champions League at PSG”
“I feel good in Paris, now I feel very good too thanks to the birth of my son. I feel like one of the leaders of the team and I dream of winning the Champions League at PSG.
I feel a responsibility to give something back to the new players. And then fortunately we have a captain (Marquinhos) who is a very good captain, he keeps us all in line, helps the new youngsters to grow.
Donnarumma “ I’m very self-critical of myself”.
I’m very self-critical of myself. At the end of the match, I always try to understand what I could have done better, what more could have been done, perhaps on a conceded goal.
Since I left Italy , I’ve been a bit too focused, it’s a bit annoying but now I’ve got broad shoulders, so I know how it works and I know what I need to do to stay in my bubble.”
Donnarumma is one of PSG’s strong points, even if many doubt his ability. He’s capable of the worst as well as the best, and that’s a fact that doesn’t suit everyone. We also know that the more soccer personalities express doubts, the more the networks swarm with negative and sometimes insulting messages.
Yet Donnarumma is a team leader, he loves the club, the fans and has never failed to greet the public. He is appreciated by everyone, which makes him a key figure in the squad. He’s one of the best goalkeepers on his line, and that doesn’t really count for everyone, even though it’s the basis of the position.
He’s average on his feet, but not catastrophic. Finally, he has a huge shortcoming when it comes to aerial exits. He’s much more than that for PSG and his team-mates. It’s up to him to grow and show that he’s capable of being a more complete player.
