Désiré Doué, the 19-year-old midfielder/attacker who joined Paris Saint-Germain from Stade Rennais last summer, won the trophy for Ligue 1’s best hopeful at yesterday’s UNFP ceremony. We spoke to the press about his award, his resemblance to Neymar, his team, the Champions League and coach Luis Enrique.
Doué “That’s why I’m so happy to be at PSG.
A word about the Best New Talent award?
I’ve made a lot of progress this year. I’m very, very happy. I’ve joined one of the greatest teams in the world, Paris Saint-Germain.
First of all, I’d like to thank the president, who put his trust in me. The staff and my team-mates helped me a lot with my integration. Today, I think that this kind of individual trophy also depends on a great collective effort throughout the season. That’s why I’m so happy to be at PSG.
Doué “I’m lucky enough to work with some great players on a daily basis.”
A deliberate resemblance to Neymar?
I’ve already been able to answer that question, as people know. Neymar is someone who has done an enormous amount in the world of soccer, who has inspired so many young players. Today, I’m trying to create my own personality on and off the pitch. I’m trying to make the best career I can.
The Champions League final?
The Champions League is something I discovered this year. I’m lucky enough to work with some great players on a daily basis. Advancing in all the competitions was the objective set at the beginning of the year. We’ve got a French Cup final before the Champions League final, and we’ll be giving everything we’ve got to win both trophies.
Gifted “He’s given me a lot of defensive and tactical input.”
In what areas has Luis Enrique helped you grow?
In many areas. He’s a great coach, and he was a great player. He gave me a lot of defensive and tactical experience. He gave me a lot.
