Paris Saint-Germain’s new forward, 26-year-old Ferran Torres, shared his first thoughts in an interview with the official PSG website. Delighted to reunite with Luis Enrique and join a particularly ambitious project, the Spanish World Cup winner is already eager to contribute to the team’s future success.
Torres: “I am truly very happy and excited.”
Ferran, welcome to Paris. How do you feel today as you become a Paris Saint-Germain player?
“I am truly very happy and excited about joining this project. It is a very ambitious project, and I want to play my part in it with great humility. I also want to thank President Nasser Al-Khelaïfi, Luis Campos, and Luis Enrique for the trust they have placed in me. I really look forward to making my debut alongside my new teammates.”
You arrived just a few weeks ago, fresh from winning the World Cup. Have you had time to fully process everything that has happened?
“It’s true that everything has moved very fast since we won the World Cup. We hardly had any vacation time to let it all sink in. But in the world of football, things move quickly, and you have to focus on the new season right away. As I said, I’m joining an ambitious team, and I need to rise to the challenge, help my teammates as much as possible, and try to bring plenty of joy to these amazing fans.”
Barely finished celebrating his world title, Ferran Torres is immediately shifting his focus to a new challenge. His initial words reflect both his happiness and his awareness of the expectations surrounding him. In joining a squad already established at the highest level, the Spaniard does not present himself as a savior-like superstar, but rather as a player eager to quickly find his place within the Paris project.
Torres: “Luis Enrique has been like a father figure in the world of football”
You were the only goalscorer in that final. Did that goal change the way you see yourself, or your perception of what you are capable of in big matches?
“Deep down, we players always love playing in big matches. But regardless, you have to stay true to yourself. I don’t think a single goal can change a life, but it was certainly a very special moment—undoubtedly one of the best days of my life.”
In Paris, you are reuniting with Luis Enrique, whom you know very well from the Spanish national team. What kind of relationship do you have with him?
“I’ve always said it: for me, Luis Enrique has been like a father figure in the world of football. When I had the chance to train under him with the national team, he always placed a great deal of trust in me. Now, having the opportunity to train under him again fills me with excitement and makes me really eager to get started on this project.”
What does Luis Enrique know about your game that few other coaches do?
“I think he’s a coach who really knows how to guide a player, understand them, and place his trust in them—even when the player might not necessarily believe in themselves. He knows how to push you to give your best. That’s a very positive thing, and above all, he knows how to bring out your full potential.” »
Luis Enrique’s presence appears to be a key factor in his arrival. The coach is already familiar with Ferran Torres’s qualities, as well as the psychological levers needed to put him in the best possible position to succeed. This relationship of trust could accelerate his adaptation and allow him to quickly take on responsibilities—particularly in high-stakes matches where his international experience and efficiency will be counted on.
However, one shouldn’t simply assume that Torres will automatically be favored by Luis Enrique. The Spanish coach is known for the value he places on hard work and commitment. Ultimately, performance on the pitch will be the deciding factor. We look forward to seeing how it unfolds.
Torres: “I like to put in the effort for the team”
You are a versatile player, capable of playing both on the wings and through the middle. How would you describe the player you are today?
“I’d say I’m a hard-working player who likes to run for his teammates. At the end of the day, when you run for them, they pay you back in kind. And since football is a team sport, I like to put in the effort for the collective. If I can contribute goals and assists, that’s even better.”
Is that what you’d like to bring to this team?
“Yes. It’s a well-oiled machine with excellent players—players I’m coming here to learn from, too. They’ve consistently demonstrated their talent and quality. I hope I can score plenty of goals and provide assists.”
His versatility offers Luis Enrique various options, whether on the wings or through the middle. However, Ferran Torres places particular emphasis on his work rate and his off-the-ball movement—two essential requirements for PSG’s collective system. His contribution will not be measured solely by statistics, even though the Spaniard makes no secret of his ambition to make a decisive impact in the final third.
Torres: “Winning every possible title again”
And what kind of person are you off the pitch? What will the Parisian fans discover about you?
“I’m a cheerful person who likes to joke around, and I’m very approachable. I really hope the fans get to see that side of Ferran and that I can bring them a lot of joy.”
What are your ambitions at PSG?
“To win every possible title again, bring happiness to the Parisian fans, score plenty of goals, provide lots of assists, and—above all—keep this winning momentum going.”
Ferran Torres has no intention of downplaying his new team’s objectives. He arrives in Paris looking to extend a winning run and play an immediate part in securing new trophies. His words blend collective ambitions and personal goals with a desire to forge a bond with the supporters. These are happy, determined opening remarks—now he must back them up on the pitch. Because it is not enough to simply talk; one must prove oneself, time and time again.
