Manchester City coach Pep Guardiola spoke to Youtubeur Wiloo about soccer and other sports in an interview broadcast on Thursday. In particular, he talked about the 2024-2025 Champions League final won last Saturday by Paris Saint-Germain against Inter Milan. A 5-0 victory that took him by surprise, and to which he gives some of the keys.
Guardiola “To beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, you have to do a lot of things right.”
I wasn’t expecting this result. Given their trajectory, PSG were favourites. But Inter are always a formidable opponent. I’m bound to think they’re a fantastic team.
But PSG have had an incredible season, they’ve reached a top level and they’ve reached the summit they’ve been aiming for for several years. Like us 3 years ago. I’m very happy for Luis Enrique, his family and his players. I congratulate them.
A perfect performance?
To beat Inter Milan 5-0 in the final, you have to do a lot of things right. Paris were solid and didn’t concede many chances, except perhaps from set-pieces. They are dangerous in transition, dangerous in positional play, very aggressive in high pressing.
Guardiola “They prevented Inter Milan from finding the right tempo.”
Was high pressing a key?
That was one of the keys, yes. Inter Milan have a great recovery, Sommer is a good goalkeeper when it comes to distribution, but Dembélé was very aggressive. They prevented Inter Milan from finding the right tempo to build. They’re very aggressive on the flanks, with 3 very dynamic midfielders.
They’ve created a top-class team, which will be a contender for victory every year. But now, every opponent wants to beat them (laughs). We’re going to try!
