Recently, an auction was held on the MatchWornShirt platform featuring the jerseys worn by Paris Saint-Germain players during the Champions League final they won 5-0 against Inter Milan on May 31st. Marquinhos, the 31-year-old PSG central defender and captain, achieved the highest auction price. And it’s impressive, as reported by RMC Sport.
“Le maillot porté par Marquinhos en finale de la Ligue des champions a été vendu à plus de 55.000 euros aux enchères !”
“Among the shirts put up for sale, also signed by PSG players, were those of Vitinha (sold for €10,001), Willian Pacho (€16,002), Nuno Mendes (€30,107) and Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (€42,198), who scored in the final.
And while those amounts are already considerable, the record didn’t go to any of them but to the club captain, Marquinhos. The Brazilian’s shirt — the one he wore while lifting the Champions League trophy — was sold at auction for €55,203 (excluding fees), according to the platform.”
It’s striking to see such sums paid for shirts, but of course everyone is free to treat themselves if they can afford it. It also shows the symbolic importance of this European triumph, especially for Marquinhos, who has been at the club since 2013. And it highlights the popularity of Khvicha Kvaratskhelia (24-year-old forward), whose winter signing turned out to be a huge success.
