Achraf Hakimi, the 26-year-old right-back for Paris Saint-Germain, has been under investigation since late 2023 for rape following a statement made by a 23-year-old woman (at the time of the alleged events) to the judicial police. On Friday, Le Parisien reported that the Nanterre public prosecutor’s office is seeking an indictment — a step closer to a possible trial. His lawyer, Maître Fanny Colin, responded to RMC Sport.
“Hakimi has absolutely said and done nothing, and has nothing to reproach himself for.”
“The prosecution, meaning the Public Prosecutor’s Office, is doing its job — that is, trying to gather evidence against him. But I am fully aware of the case file and can say that there is a great deal of exculpatory evidence. It will be the defense’s role to bring this to light. In this case, we will fight until the very end to ensure that the truth emerges and that it is stated and heard that Achraf Hakimi has absolutely said and done nothing, and has nothing to reproach himself for.”
“Nothing here”
She says she feels “calm” when discussing a potential trial and challenges the alleged victim’s version of events, which she considers “incoherent.”
“In rape or sexual assault cases, in 99.9% of instances, you have psychological assessments that indicate some symptom — post-traumatic stress disorder, nightmares, weight gain, weight loss. Here, nothing,” she stressed.
These are important statements to take into account in such a case — but this does not necessarily mean her version is entirely accurate either. Caution is needed, and the justice system must be allowed to do its work: to verify the facts as thoroughly as possible, in order to establish the truth and deliver the correct judgment.
At this stage, Hakimi has not been found guilty — and he could very well be innocent.
