This Wednesday, May 13, Paris Saint-Germain have a small event to celebrate as they prepare for a possibly historic end to the season, with the French Cup and Champions League finals to play for. It’s the birthday of defender and captain Marquinhos, who turns 31 today.
Having arrived from AS Roma in 2013, Marquinhos has certainly already made his mark on PSG’s history. However, he is regularly called into question, not least for his role as captain following the departure of Thiago Silva. Some criticize him for not always conveying enough serenity or aggression on big nights.
It’s an easy criticism to make, even though he’s not part of the team, and one that comes up again and again after every “average” Parisian match. However, it could also be pointed out that he wore the armband during many of the team’s great victories. One of which is this season’s Champions League run to the final against Inter Milan on May 31.
Victory would be an immense joy and a superb reward for this PSG fan. Particularly after some major disappointments. We can only wish him all the best for this magical moment, and a happy birthday of course.
