Jérôme Rothen, who played for Paris Saint-Germain from 2004 to 2010, remains a devoted fan of the capital club. Now a pundit on RMC radio, he delivered a heartfelt declaration of love for Luis Enrique, the current PSG coach, following their qualification for the Champions League final for the second consecutive year.
Rothen: “He has everything you could ask for in a PSG coach”
“I continue to admire all his work since the first day he arrived. We’ve had many debates about Luis Enrique. We didn’t always agree. For me, he immediately had the style, the personality, and the talent to elevate this PSG team. He was accepted instantly by the fans. He has everything you could ask for in a PSG coach. He has that slightly arrogant side. We Parisians aren’t like that, and we see ourselves reflected in a coach like him.”
Rothen: “This guy is incredible, and I hope they keep him for a long time.”
“What he’s implementing on the pitch is beyond impressive. I’m in love with this coach! He’s the genius coach Paris Saint-Germain needed. What he’s doing is incredible. This guy is incredible, and I hope they keep him for a long time. He has everything! Even if there’s a setback one year, I’m sure he’ll find solutions to get this club back on track. You see him talking about PSG? He oozes passion for the club! He’s proud to be PSG’s coach. I’m so proud!”
Rothen: “A guy who gives me goosebumps.”
“I get goosebumps when I see him. I wish I’d had a guy like that as my coach during my six years at Paris Saint-Germain, a guy who gives me goosebumps, who helps me improve and helps the team improve! Keep him!”
Arriving at PSG in 2023, Luis Enrique immediately established himself as the leader and, above all, the right man for the job. At that time, there were still egos to manage, the presence of Kylian Mbappé, the 27-year-old striker now at Real Madrid, and a project to relaunch. When the departure of the 2018 World Cup winner was confirmed, many saw the capital club regressing and its European ambitions vanishing. Luis Enrique asserted that the opposite would happen and, moreover, proved it.
The Spanish tactician fulfilled the greatest dream of Parisian supporters: winning the Champions League last year. Now in the final for the second year in a row, the Red and Blue faithful can once again make history in French football.
This achievement is already a landmark. Victory will obviously be a bonus, but the journey that the Parisian club has just completed proves that it is the best club in Europe and, above all, that the project led by Luis Enrique is only in its early stages.
