FC Nantes president Waldemar Kita spoke to L’Equipe about the match between Paris Saint-Germain and FC Nantes, scheduled for the 29th day of Ligue 1 at the Stade de la Beaujoire. Originally scheduled for April 12, the match will now take place on the 22nd to allow PSG to concentrate on the Champions League quarter-finals against Aston Villa (9th and 15th). Even if this doesn’t really suit Nantes.
Kita “it’s a good decision”.
“If PSG qualify for the semi-finals it will be thanks in part to us, thanks to FC Nantes. I wish him all the best, even if I don’t think he needs it to get there. If he makes the final, I hope he’ll invite me. More generally, it’s a good decision by the board of directors to help clubs involved in the European Cup. It doesn’t benefit us, but if it can help PSG…”.
Criticism of this calendar change is understandable, given that PSG is well aware that it’s going to be a busy season as it seeks to win all the titles. Especially as PSG/Lille have not been moved, despite Lille’s request for their Champions League Round of 16 fixture. Not to mention the fact that the Parisians are already practically champions of France.
Nantes’ schedule is going to be a little disrupted now that their survival is at stake, so it would have been understandable if no changes had been made. But we appreciate Kita’s mentality and the help given when Paris has asked for it.
