PSG weren’t flamboyant, but they controlled the game well and won relatively calmly against an Angers side who were intent on defending well. A perfect win, with the title and no injuries, to prepare for Wednesday’s Champions League quarter-final first leg against Aston Villa.

Behind them, there were two major surprises. Monaco, who were in 2nd place, lost 2-1 at Brest and Nice lost 1-2 to Nantes. Both results allow the other European contenders to climb back up the table, with the exception of Lille, who lost 2-1 to Lyon.

As a result, OM, who struggled against Toulouse, regained 2nd place. However, they are only 5 points ahead of Lille and Nice, while Lyon and Strasbourg have managed to squeeze in between them. Strasbourg’s precious win at Reims was marred by a very strange refereeing decision at the end of the match, with a relatively obvious Reims penalty overlooked. All the more reason for the now play-off runners-up to be angry.

It was Le Havre who benefited, with the second win in the race to stay up, in addition to Nantes, at Montpellier. The latter, who lost 0-2, are not yet mathematically in Ligue 2, but it’s almost done, and there’s no reason to believe they can climb back up. Saint-Etienne, now in 17th place, can be more hopeful despite their 1-0 defeat at Lens.
