Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 29-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, failed to fully establish himself with coach Luis Enrique. So he was loaned out to Aston Villa for the second half of the 2024-2025 season. He has taken advantage of this opportunity to get back on track and has even impressed. Now we’re waiting to find out what his future holds. Le Parisien and L’Equipe reported on Monday that a return to PSG is unthinkable. The English club would like to keep him, but there is competition.
Le Parisien :
L’Equipe :
“‘He doesn’t want to come back’, we were told simply by those around him. Monchi, the Villa general manager behind his signature, hopes to keep him next season.
Paris, for its part, says it’s not worried about the situation and assures us that others have called to ask about the terms of a transfer.”
Seeing Asensio again at PSG would undeniably be a big surprise. Clearly, he failed to convince coach Luis Enrique, and his playing time dwindled dramatically until his loan spell. That happens, and we had to move on.
Paris has found some good solutions in its squad, and Asensio has regained his confidence at Aston Villa. It would be logical for the English club to think about keeping him, just as the Spaniard may be interested in the idea of staying. But other offers could be on the table. In particular, to play in the Champions League.
The situation remains partly unclear. Except for a sale which is taking shape, that’s the logic. And possibly for a handsome sum. Asensio is impressing in the Premier League and should attract several offers. We can only hope that PSG make a good negotiation.
