PSG’s rather controlled, if at times hummable, victory was a major boost to their position in the standings. The 5th-placed team was a tough nut to crack, except that Paris took all the points and left with a 7-point lead.

OM and Monaco both dropped points this weekend, in separate matches against Lille and Reims. Complicated, hard-fought encounters that allow PSG to pull away again.

Interestingly, they didn’t really see their rivals take advantage, as it was a weekend of draws: Lens and Auxerre, like Montpellier and Nice (more surprisingly), went 2-2.

Rennes, Strasbourg and Brest were able to reassure themselves with wins of 2-0 over Angers, 0-3 over Le Havre and 4-1 over Nantes, enough to give them some breathing space before the break (apart from the Coupe de France next weekend).
