Ligue 1 - Day 22 review: The Europeans move on

PSG weren’t spectacular, but they controlled the game to beat one of Ligue 1’s best defenses. This 0-1 win in Toulouse won’t be particularly memorable this season, but it’s still 3 points gained, and that’s nothing to sneeze at.

Especially as Olympique de Marseille had “put the pressure on” with a comprehensive victory over Saint-Étienne. This gives the Marseillais hope of embarrassing the rest of the way and at least finishing 2nd, while the Stéphanois will have to fight to stay up.

Behind Marseille, points were also taken. Nice scored a fine win at Le Havre, and AS Monaco showed that they have not said their last word. However, they got off to a poor start when they lost to Nantes. But a red card and a lucky strike secured a resounding 7-1 victory. Lille put an end to Rennes’ fine run (2 wins) with style, and OL also put on a show at Montpellier (1-4).

Relatively logical results, leaving the race for Europe in the balance but the race to stay in the top flight a little “on the spot”. With the exception of Lens/Strasbourg, two direct rivals in the race for Europe. As is often the case this season, Lens have lost in such a match and see Strasbourg come back.

Brest, PSG’s opponents in the Champions League play-offs, drew frustratingly with Auxerre.
