On Matchday 2 of the 2025-2026 Ligue 1 season, Paris Saint-Germain won 1-0 against Angers at the Parc des Princes. A comfortable win, but without any offensive brilliance. Olympique Lyonnais took advantage of the situation to move into first place on goal difference.

PSG isn’t yet brilliant, but it’s already showing some control. It won with immense possession against Angers in its first match at the Parc des Princes, as well as a few big missed chances. Including a penalty from Ousmane Dembélé. Some are trying to overplay this point, while Paris is essentially on the right track despite its preparation being conducted in competition.

Other clubs are taking advantage of goal difference to move ahead. Olympique Lyonnais confirmed their strong start to the season with a resounding 3-0 victory over Metz, just as Toulouse, who were somewhat less expected, also had a solid 2-0 win at home to Brest. Always solid, Toulouse have been a little better offensively in this Ligue 1 opener, which will be worth keeping an eye on. Especially since they’re the Parisians’ next opponent next Saturday.

The only other club with six points is Strasbourg, thanks to a second 1-0 win, this time against Nantes. AS Monaco, who were leaders, were unable to keep up and even lost in the difficult trip to Lille to close the match. This was due to Olivier Giroud, who is having a great time on his return to France.

Behind them, we should note the reaction of Olympique de Marseille, who were beaten 11 to 10 in Rennes last weekend. This time, they led 2-0 against Paris FC before seeing the promoted team come back to 2-2, then crumble under Marseille’s substitutions for a 5-2 win. Rennes also “cracked,” with two red cards after 10 minutes in Lorient, resulting in a logical 4-0 defeat.

Finally, we note that there are also four teams on zero points, with Le Havre losing to Lens after losing to Monaco. The early season schedule was particularly tough, but they must quickly take at least one point.
