Ligue 1 - Matchday 12 review: the top four take the 3 points

PSG didn’t exactly shine against Toulouse, but they got the job done while managing their squad. The 3 points are there, as is the confidence, and this allows us to remain serene in Ligue 1.

This was particularly necessary, given Monaco’s return to winning ways against Brest, who are still slipping dangerously down the Ligue 1 table. This is hardly ideal before facing FC Barcelona in the Champions League (even if their record there is already remarkable).

Just behind them, Olympique de Marseille pulled off a major coup with victory at Lens. A further away success that will need to be confirmed at the Velodrome, where Marseille are struggling.

Lille’s victory over Rennes and Nice’s win over Strasbourg were the other big wins at the top of the table. 4th place is consolidated, while 5th is taken. Reims and Lyon are now two points off the pace, although there’s still time to catch up. And let’s not forget Auxerre, the surprise package of the moment, even if their victory over Angers seemed more logical.

In the fight to stay up, AS Saint-Etienne struck a blow with victory over Montpellier, as did Le Havre at Nantes.
