Ligue 1 - Matchday 9 review: PSG sweep aside OM and distance themselves from Monaco!

PSG took the perfect approach to their Classico clash, far from the doubts that some had raised after the draw with PSV Eindhoven in the Champions League. With intensity and precision, they hurt an OM side who were completely out of their depth. And sabotaged themselves, with a red card and an own goal.

Monaco, who had the same number of points before the match, suffered their first defeat of the season in Nice. A frustrating 2-1 defeat from which we’ll have to recover quickly. In the weekend’s other derby, Lille snatched a precious 0-2 win from Lens, with goals in added time. The result puts Lille 3 points clear of Lens and OM.

Behind them, Lyon were the worst performers, leading against Auxerre but reminding us of their major flaw: irregularity. A draw was conceded against promoted Auxerre, who took a precious point.

In the race to stay up, Angers and Toulouse won 4-2 and 0-3 respectively against Saint-Etienne and Montpellier.
