Paris Saint-Germain defeated Liverpool 2-0 this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final (4-0 on aggregate). Following this victory, PSG coach Luis Enrique spoke at a press conference.
Luis Enrique: “We showed what kind of team we are.”
Is it sweeter to win after so much suffering?
“It was an important match that showed the fans of both teams two very good sides. We tried to control the game. It was very close. We had some good moments. In the second half, they pressed harder. We showed what kind of team we are.”
This is the third time in a row that you’ve reached the semi-finals, what’s your secret?
“The secret is clear: we need to have some luck.” We were lucky not to concede a goal in this match. It’s also a real pleasure to have these players, to be at this club, and to have the incredible support of these fans. We’re very happy to enjoy this kind of match.
Do you have any news about the injured players?
“It’s a knock for Doué. For Nuno, we’ll have to see tomorrow. We’ll have to see the results. We didn’t take any risks.”
Luis Enrique: “I’ve always said it’s a pleasure to have three goalkeepers like that.”
Are you satisfied with having designated Safonov as the number one goalkeeper?
“For Safonov, I’ve always said it’s a pleasure to have three goalkeepers like that. We show what kind of team we are. It’s very important to be here, because it’s difficult after winning the Champions League.”
Does a great Champions League run depend on a great Ousmane Dembélé?
“He’s a very different kind of player. A world-class player. We know his ability to defend. That’s what a team is all about. I’m happy to see this mentality.”
Luis Enrique: “We can lose, but we’re always at the same level.”
Is PSG stronger than last season?
“I don’t know. What I can say is the pleasure of knowing my team is at the same level regardless of the opponent, regardless of the stadium. We can lose, but we’re always at the same level, with the mentality of sticking together.”
What did you feel when PSG lost control of the match?
“You can’t control those moments. I don’t have the option, like in basketball, to call a timeout to say, ‘Watch out.’ My team takes risks. In the end, we were lucky, but we controlled what we could thanks to the players and Safonov. We knew there would be gaps at the end.” With the players we have, we know how to manage space well. Liverpool deserved to score.
A preference between Real Madrid and Bayern Munich?
“Every time I give my preference, it’s the other team we have. I’m going to watch our next opponent calmly in Paris with a beer.”
