Paris Saint-Germain and Liverpool faced off this Tuesday at Anfield in the second leg of their 2025-2026 Champions League quarter-final. The match ended in a 2-0 victory for PSG (4-0 on aggregate). After the game, Liverpool manager Arne Slot spoke at a press conference.
Slot: “Few teams can dominate this side.”
What can you say about your team’s performance?
We made significant progress compared to last week. I have to acknowledge the merit of my players and our fans. They played a crucial role in pressing high and pushing us forward. Unfortunately, it was a reminder of our season so far, with us struggling to finish the numerous chances we create. We underperformed in that area. It’s something we’ve been struggling with this season.
There’s also another injury, and a VAR decision that didn’t go our way. It’s not the first time this season. There’s a feeling that a goal could have made the evening special. But the future looks bright; we were able to dominate against PSG, the European champions. Few teams can dominate that much against them. But dominating is one thing, scoring is another.
Slot: “We’ve run out of luck tonight.”
A comment on the disallowed penalty?
I think we’ve been too lucky this week, and we’ve run out of luck tonight. Last week, there were two situations. The first wasn’t a penalty, the second is more debatable.
Tonight, we had penalties against us in similar situations. There was contact. But I’m not surprised. But this isn’t the story of the season. I am surprised, but not with us. It happens to us often. That’s just how it is.
Do you know the severity of Ekitike’s injury?
It looks bad, but I can’t say how bad it is yet. We’ll have tests done to find out, we’ll see. It doesn’t look good, that’s clear.
Slot: “Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opponent.”
How do you explain the fact that you didn’t score from your chances?
It’s difficult. But we played with Isak and Ekitike, who have proven they are goalscorers. I don’t know what it is, but it’s part of the season. There’s the fact that Isak was injured for a long time. There were also some very good saves from the goalkeeper. On the other side, the Ballon d’Or winner scored a very nice goal. Sometimes you just have to give credit to the opponent, a very great player like Ousmane Dembélé.
