Vitinha, the 24-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, spoke to The Times newspaper in an interview published on Monday. The interview was an opportunity to respond to the idea of a move to the Premier League, and to discuss his relationship with coach Luis Enrique.
Vitinha “I really prefer this type of project.”
“Playing in the Premier League one day ?
I know the power of the Premier League (…) All I can say is that I really want to stay here, I’m really happy here, and I’m sure the club thinks the same. I really prefer this type of project. The way they want to build the team, the long-term vision, that’s the best way.
An extension ?
All I can say is that I really want to stay here, I’m really happy here, and I’m sure the club feels the same way.
Vitinha “He won’t lie to you.”
Luis Enrique ?
I really don’t think I could find a better coach. He matches my abilities with the ball, my strengths. He won’t lie to you. You can’t get the wrong impression. It’s a very good thing. I really like that. Sometimes coaches aren’t as direct, to protect themselves.”
It’s a pleasure to see a PSG player so happy and invested in Paris, all the more so when he’s been establishing himself as a key member of the squad for several months now. Vitinha has become one of the masters of the Parisian game.
What’s more, he’s one of those people who speaks out the most when the going gets tough. The Portuguese is a leader both technically and in spirit, with a clear desire to see this project continue to move forward.
Vitinha has also made no secret of the fact that he loves working with coach Luis Enrique, whose style of play matches his profile, and whose frankness is particularly appreciated. Once again, we’ve come a long way from the rumours of problems that arose during the period of slightly poorer results.
We’re now waiting to see if Vitinha’s extension can be made official, although the media have been claiming that it has been completed for several weeks. The same goes for Luis Enrique and Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back).
