On Wednesday at the Etihad Stadium, Paris Saint-Germain defeated Manchester City 4–2 on Matchday 2 of the 2026–2027 Champions League. Following the match, UEFA named the Player of the Match.

It is a fine accolade for Vitinha, the 26-year-old midfielder who bossed the middle of the park in the first half and was rewarded with a lovely goal. The second half was tougher—as it was for the entire Paris side—but he thoroughly deserves this honor, even though many other players could just as easily have claimed it following such a superb match between two top-level teams.
