Marco Asensio, Paris Saint-Germain’s 28-year-old midfielder/attacker under contract until 2026, has been struggling of late and has been rather sidelined by coach Luis Enrique. So the idea of a mercato departure is taking hold. Foot Mercato claims that Galatasaray want the player. The Turkish club’s idea would be to bring in the Spaniard on a straight transfer. Turkish media outlet Sports Digitale reports that the club has made enquiries about bringing the player in.
Asensio’s career should never have developed like this. The player has incredible talent, but top-level soccer isn’t just about talent. You also need luck, and few injuries, let alone serious ones. What’s more, soccer has a psychological side.
A player may be good with the ball, but being good in soccer matches, with partners, opponents and in the impact of matches, is inevitably more complex. Asensio’s trajectory is downward. Let’s hope he finds a club where his soccer can flourish.
