The 2025 summer mercato is not yet open, of course, but it’s already getting underway, so rumors about Paris Saint-Germain still arrive from time to time. This time, Bild is reporting that Nico Schlotterbeck, the 25-year-old Borussia Dortmund and Germany defender (contract runs until 2027), is a PSG target.
“PSG are said to be interested in recruiting Nico Schlotterbeck. Kimpembe, meanwhile, could leave the club, and the German central defender would come in as a numerical replacement.
The price would be in the region of €70 million. It remains to be seen whether PSG will take action during negotiations this summer, especially as the Parisian club is not alone in its pursuit.”
We remain cautious, of course, as it’s just a rumour at the moment, with nothing concrete to report in the “off” period between the international break and the start of the new season. And with Schlotterbeck’s contract due to expire in 2027, we can’t rule out this announcement being a pressure tactic on the part of his entourage.
Schlotterbeck is a fine defensive talent, but a price tag of €70 million 2 years before the end of his contract seems a little exaggerated. In any case, there are plenty of other possibilities for the mercato. PSG may have other priorities, as may the defender and Borussia Dortmund.
Let’s wait and see if there’s any confirmation, bearing in mind that this dossier could simply fizzle out fairly quickly.
