The 2024-2025 winter mercato has arrived (throughout the month of January), so the rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are piling up. Today, Le Parisien reports on what PSG has planned. The main departures are Milan Skriniar (29-year-old defender) and possibly Marco Asensio (28-year-old midfielder/striker).
Recruitment is planned for this summer instead.
“Barring a reversal of fortunes, according to our information, PSG will not be recruiting again this winter. Instead, it is putting off its next major manoeuvres until next summer, perhaps targeting an axial right-back to cover Marquinhos’ position (or even that of Achraf Hakimi) and a top striker. Colombian Jhon Durán, 21, is regularly mentioned as a candidate who would appeal to the sporting director, Luis Campos, and his coach, Luis Enrique.
Departures pending.
Although no reinforcements are expected, the capital club has not finished with its disposals. Milan Skriniar has passed his medical at Fenerbahçe. The Slovak defender is now waiting for Paris to comply with regulations concerning the number of players on loan abroad – six – currently at its maximum.
The latest hot spot for PSG to keep an eye on is the case of Marco Asensio, 29 and still under contract for a year and a half. The former Madrid man, who can play in midfield, on the flank or as a false number 9, could benefit from opportunities in the final hours of the mercato. ”
We remain cautious, as these are still just rumours and not all the media agree. Some are still claiming that PSG intend to recruit during the winter mercato. This would make sense in order to have a complete defense, while Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back) still seems to lack an understudy.
But with Skriniar almost gone, it’s time to find a way out of the loan crisis. This would be between Cher Ndour (on loan to Besiktas) and Renato Sanches (on loan to Benfica). But here again, there’s no certainty.
So we’ll continue to wait and see. It’s quite credible that PSG won’t be recruiting again this winter, as the mercato is still rather stalled and will soon be over. But be warned, anything can happen very quickly if an opportunity arises.
