Luis Campos arrived at Paris Saint-Germain in the summer of 2022, replacing sporting director Leonardo, but with a special role as “soccer advisor”. Rumors of his departure resurfaced this summer. Le Parisien reports this Thursday that he is heading for an extension, in addition to the almost finalized extension of coach Luis Enrique.
“With Luis Campos, the President’s sporting advisor, who is also in the process of extending his contract – he has an offer still under consideration – the Spanish coach forms a complementary duo. The two sporting heads of the club may not agree on everything, but they share a common global vision and manage to work together over the long term.
This is something of a novelty at a club that has multiplied its sources of conflict and places of power, notably in the sporting sector with the latent struggles between Thomas Tuchel and Antero Henrique or Mauricio Pochettino and Leonardo.”
Nothing impossible, and nothing certain. In fact, there’s no question of a signature yet. But it seems likely, and not insane. PSG has a clear project for 2023 and two strong men working on it.
There may be disagreements, but the club seems to be moving forward. In any case, a duo that agrees on everything isn’t necessarily the most effective way of moving a project forward. The key is to know how to discuss and exchange ideas.
We can also think of those who are only waiting for Luis Enrique and Campos to leave. Too bad, there are always disappointed people. Especially when there’s no effort to understand everything that’s being put in place.
