Having arrived in 2021 from Sporting Portugal, Nuno Mendes has quickly shown that he has great qualities. Unsurprisingly, Paris Saint-Germain were keen to secure the future of the 22-year-old left-back by extending his contract, which expires in 2026. According to RMC Sport, however, it’s at least dead, and the player is now thinking mainly of leaving.
“The former Sporting CP player now sees himself elsewhere.
“The contact is broken. PSG and left-back Nuño Mendes are in negotiations to extend his contract, but have been unable to find common ground. The club has made offers to the Portuguese international, whose current contract runs until 2026. The player has turned them down.
Nuño Mendes believes that the salary offered by PSG is not commensurate with his status as a regular starter. So much so that the former Sporting CP player now sees himself elsewhere. The Portuguese international is in the sights of several major European clubs.
One of these is Manchester United, who have made an offer and are lobbying hard for the 22-year-old full-back. However, the club’s directors are refusing to hear any talk of a departure this winter, and are still hoping for an extension. As for the Parisian club, they are absolutely determined to keep him.”
After the great confidence announced a few weeks ago, the trend over the last few days has been to leave. RMC Sport has just confirmed this, which may well cause concern among the fans. However, nothing is certain yet.
It’s just a rumour, and no more credible than that of an extension that’s almost been signed. So we remain cautious. But maybe the truth is out there, and a departure is about to take shape. It happens in soccer.
It’s annoying, as Nuno Mendes is a player who is rather appreciated. Not to mention the fact that top-level full-backs are rare. But there’s no drama. There are other players out there and nobody can be more important than the club. There are always solutions. There’s also a certain fragility that sometimes annoys and worries.
Let’s wait now for the certainties, without jumping to conclusions when there’s nothing official.
