Renato Sanches, Paris Saint-Germain’s 27-year-old midfielder under contract until 2027, has returned to Benfica Lisbon on loan with an option to buy, after a season with AS Roma under this guise, which was mitigated by further physical problems. Record reported on Friday that the Portuguese club had not exercised the option to buy ahead of schedule.
“Benfica have missed the deadline for exercising their option to buy Renato Sanches!
Recurring injuries mean the midfielder’s departure is a foregone conclusion”
This is really bad news, as there was talk of a transfer, perhaps negotiated at just under 10 million euros. Mind you, it’s still not impossible. The date set last summer has passed, but that doesn’t mean we can’t talk things over.
We can still hope that Benfica will talk to PSG, even if the price can’t be very high. Or perhaps another club will try its luck in the hope of getting Renato Sanches out of the infirmary. He remains an excellent player, if he can finally get his act together.
Let’s wait and see what happens to the Portuguese, whose future is unfortunately complicated every year.
