Désiré Doué, Paris Saint-Germain’s 19-year-old striker, is this season’s revelation. Speaking to RMC‘s Rothen S’enflamme program, Nuno Mendes, a 22-year-old Parisian full-back, reflected on his team-mate’s impressive season.
Mendes “Désiré has plenty of time to grow up”
How do you feel about the emergence of Désiré Doué?
“He’s a great player, a player with a lot of maturity. He’s a 2005. It’s complicated for a young player to arrive at a big club with a lot of quality players and assert himself. Right now, he’s one of the most important players in the team.
It’s a good job on the part of the coach and ourselves, because we try to put all the players who arrive on the pitch at ease. Désiré has a lot of time to grow, so we’re trying to support him.”
Although the recruitment of Désiré Doué had left a few questions unanswered, notably concerning his lack of experience, his performances soon showed that PSG had been right. But it was particularly in the second half of the season that the Parisian really came into his own, and continues to do so match after match.
Doué is only 19 years old and still has plenty of room for improvement. What he is showing today gives us every reason to hope for the best, especially if he continues to work as hard as ever.
