João Neves, 21-year-old Paris Saint-Germain midfielder, was one of the four Parisians called up to Portugal for the October break (along with Nuno Mendes, Vitinha, and Gonçalo Ramos). But he ultimately withdrew and will remain in Paris, according to an official statement from the national team.
“João Neves will not be playing for Portugal!!
He has been replaced by Nuno Tavares!”
Neves must therefore ultimately withdraw from this training camp and will wait until November to possibly return to the Portuguese national team. This may be disappointing, but it’s probably wiser. He seemed almost ready on Wednesday to face FC Barcelona, except that he ultimately had to withdraw. And he wasn’t ready on Sunday in Lille.
It’s time to rest and prepare for what’s next. Hopefully, he’ll be back in action when the game resumes on October 17 against Strasbourg.
