This Wednesday, the French Football Federation confirmed the rumors of recent years: Didier Deschamps, France’s national team coach, will be stepping down after the 2026 French Cup.
“At the helm of Les Bleus since 2012, the greatest coach in the history of the French national team will step down after the 2026 World Cup.”
A great page will be turned for Les Bleus. Whether or not you like the way the Equipe de France have played in recent years, whether or not you like certain selections or the captaincy, the results are there for all to see.
These include a losing final at the Euro and World Cup, as well as winning the 2018 World Cup. It’s an impressive record, and Deschamps will no doubt deserve a fine tribute when he leaves. We hope it will be after one last successful major competition.
