Didier Deschamps, coach of the French national team (until the end of the 2026 World Cup), was asked by Le Parisien to comment on Désiré Doué’s rise at Paris Saint-Germain. With the possibility of the 19-year-old midfielder/attacker joining the Bleus squad in the near future.
Deschamps “he’s doing things that could bring him closer to Les Bleus.”
“He’s a very young player, who had a big transfer and arrived on tiptoe. He didn’t get off to an easy start because he wasn’t playing as much. With more playing time, I think he’s made a lot of progress. He has the ability to eliminate, to play on both flanks, and he can also play in midfield.
L1 is one thing. The Champions League, an international competition, is quite another. Potentially, he’s doing things that could bring him closer to Les Bleus.”
Doué is indeed on a roll. Logically, he needed to adapt after his arrival at PSG, with a new environment, opponents who expect him to play differently, a certain style of play and a different kind of pressure. But there’s no reason to doubt his footballing qualities.
With his technical ease, creativity and defensive efforts, the young Parisian has a certain versatility that also provides him with interesting playing time, as he can be a solution in a variety of situations.
This could also prove useful to the French national team. Deschamps will logically be following his progress and performances in Paris. But beware, the position will be hard to fill in the face of stiff competition. The Les Bleus coach underlined this point to L’Equipe when asked about the rising generation (with Doué, but also Rayan Cherki, for example).
