Achraf Hakimi, Paris Saint-Germain’s 26-year-old right-back who was under contract until 2026, was fully revived last season under coach Luis Enrique. He is also visibly happy at the club, which today announced his 3-year extension (until 2029).
This is excellent news for PSG, who have arguably one of the best right-backs in the world. There were a few misgivings due to some irregularity and poor choices. But these were partly due to his excessive willingness to serve Kylian Mbappé at the end of moves.
Now that his friend has left for Real Madrid, Hakimi’s game is more varied and unpredictable, and he is undeniably a great asset for Paris. He has also improved defensively.
He has also gained “weight” within the dressing room and has been given the role of vice-captain. An important step, and this extension is further proof of his importance to the Parisian project. It also shows that he believes in it and wants to be part of it. All the more reason to rejoice.
