Arriving in the 2022 summer transfer window, 27-year-old central defender/full-back Nordi Mukiele failed to establish himself at Paris Saint-Germain. Held back by injuries, especially in 2023, and rarely used by coach Luis Enrique, he was loaned to Bayer Leverkusen without an option to buy for the 2024-2025 season, while his contract expires in June 2027. He then returned and a future path for his career had to be found. This ultimately happened at Sunderland, with the transfer formalized today.
When he signed, we hoped to see Mukiele establish himself as a very solid defensive option, either on the right or in the center. But, despite some strong performances, he failed to fully establish himself. A lack of consistency, coupled with some bad luck with physical problems, led to his being sidelined by coach Luis Enrique.
Unfortunately, he won’t leave a lasting impression in Paris, even though we can appreciate that he has always displayed determination and avoided complaining despite a difficult situation. We obviously wish him success in fully recovering.
In any case, PSG has made an attractive sale, estimated at €13 million with bonuses, for a player who was absolutely no longer part of coach Luis Enrique’s plans. While prospects seemed few and far between, at least among the few, there was cause for concern. It’s a good outcome for everyone.
