Hermann Malonga, an 18-year-old defender developed at Paris Saint-Germain and nearing the end of his trainee contract, had been linked with a move to Manchester City to sign his first professional deal. While he did indeed leave PSG, he ultimately joined Strasbourg—a move officially confirmed this Wednesday.
“𝐇𝐞𝐫𝐦𝐚𝐧𝐧 𝐌𝐚𝐥𝐨𝐧𝐠𝐚 𝐣𝐨𝐢𝐧𝐬 𝐑𝐚𝐜𝐢𝐧𝐠 🆕
Developed at Paris Saint-Germain, the center-back (born in 2008) played for the national U19 squad, helping them secure the Coupe Gambardella and league title double during the 2025-2026 season. The French U17 international has signed a contract running until 2031.”
It is disappointing to see this promising “Titi” leave PSG without taking the time to potentially carve out a spot for himself there. However, his decision is understandable given the fierce competition in the capital these days. Playing time seems more attainable elsewhere, which is beneficial for his development and his hopes of establishing himself—even if there are no guarantees, whereas making it big at PSG remains a possibility. A loan spell could also have been an option.
But Malonga has made his choice, and it makes sense. Strasbourg is an excellent club, and the existing link with Chelsea offers exciting prospects for the future. In any case, we wish the Parisian academy graduate all the best for the next stage of his career.
