The 2026 summer transfer window is here, and rumors surrounding Paris Saint-Germain are swirling. This time, it’s Le Parisien and journalist Fabrizio Romano who are reporting the departure of 18-year-old defender Hermann Malonga to Manchester City. The player is leaving to sign his first professional contract.
Le Parisien:
“Hermann Malonga is preparing to join the English club despite a long-standing offer to extend his contract in the capital. An agreement has been reached on the terms of his future contract across the Channel. The 18-year-old center-back will sign a five-year deal with the Sky Blues.”
Fabrizio Romano:
Unfortunately, these are reliable sources regarding the departure of a PSG youth academy player. It’s a path already taken by striker Mahamadou Sangaré (19 years old) last summer, who joined Manchester City’s U21 team for the time being. Nothing is certain for the future, but Malonga is going down the same path for now. Perhaps it will pay off later.
Choices aren’t easy in a career, and it’s understandable that the competition at PSG is worrying when it comes to securing regular playing time. Even if a place isn’t any more guaranteed at Manchester City. We would have liked to see the academy player continue within the Parisian project. Perhaps the club also had other priorities. Not every young player can be given a place.
