This Friday, Paris Saint-Germain pulled out all the stops with the announcement of 7 contract extensions: coach Luis Enrique, Vitinha (24-year-old midfielder), Achraf Hakimi (26-year-old right-back), Nuno Mendes (22-year-old left-back), Yoram Zague (18-year-old defender), Ibrahim Mbaye (17-year-old striker) and Naoufel El Hannach (18-year-old defender).
It’s a major coup, with key members of the squad – relatively young ones at that – as well as the coach and a number of talented youngsters from the academy, all of whom have been with us for a long time. It shows the strength of the project, with a stable base.
We can only be delighted to see PSG at last truly building its squad and its game. Even if there will still be departures and arrivals at the various mercatos. The squad is never “perfect”, and there are always points of disappointment, whether on the part of the staff or the players. But that doesn’t mean we can’t have a strong framework, and Paris has done a good job of that.
