Pedro Fernandez Sarmiento, often called Dro Fernandez, finally joined Paris Saint-Germain this winter. The 18-year-old midfielder refused to extend his contract with FC Barcelona, which was due to expire in 2027, and PSG took advantage of the situation, signing him for a fee of around €8 million, according to media reports. The player’s arrival at PSG was officially announced today.
“OFFICIAL!! Dro Fernández (2008) signs with Paris Saint-Germain from FC Barcelona!! The Spanish-Filipino midfielder signs for four and a half years (2030)!! Transfer estimated at around €8.2 million!! Number for the Spanish U18 international!!”
This is great news for PSG, who are bolstering their squad after some weaknesses this season, with more injuries than last year (which was also exceptional in that regard). Dro Fernandez is a great talent, possessing a versatility that should appeal to coach Luis Enrique.
Of course, he may need some time to adapt. He seems to need to gain experience and develop more strength in duels. But his technical ability is certainly there, as is his vision of the game. We can trust the coaching staff and his teammates to help him. Let’s hope he lives up to his potential and that PSG can pull off a superb signing this winter.
In any case, we welcome him.
