Olga Carmona, the 25-year-old Spanish left-back who joined Paris Saint-Germain from Real Madrid this summer, already shares a special bond with Fabián Ruiz, the 29-year-old PSG and Spain midfielder. Ruiz had even welcomed her to the club with a personal message upon her signing. In an interview with Le Parisien, Carmona spoke about their close connection.
Carmona: “I used to play football with his sister when we were kids.”
“What’s your connection with Fabián Ruiz?”
Like me, he’s from Seville. We’re quite close because I used to play football with his sister when we were little. I know her very well, as well as his mother and family. I talk a lot with Fabián, and we see each other regularly. I’ve already been to the Parc des Princes twice to watch him play.
It’s hard to find a bit of Seville in Paris, but the fact that there are several of us from there helps—it reminds you a bit of Spain, it feels a little like home. Fabián is a wonderful person. We talk a lot about things that exist in Spain but not here, and vice versa. We also discuss how things work in his team, and I tell him how it is in the women’s squad, and so on.”
It’s always fascinating to see these personal links within football—a vast world that often feels surprisingly small. For Carmona, this connection makes adapting to life in Paris easier after leaving Spain.
Beyond friendship, their conversations reflect the growing unity between PSG’s men’s and women’s teams, helping to strengthen the club’s shared culture and identity. It’s a great example of mutual support and belonging within the PSG family.
