Paris Saint-Germain secured a 2–1 victory over Olympique de Marseille this Sunday at the Stade Vélodrome in Matchday 5 of the 2026–2027 Ligue 1 season. After the match, PSG midfielder Vitinha (26) stopped in the mixed zone.
Vitinha: “If everyone thought that, I can assure you that wasn’t the case for us.”
A tough match, but 3 points in the bag—what are the key takeaways?
As you said, the most important thing is the victory. Especially at this stage of the season. We’re playing catch-up in the league, so winning this match was more important than usual. Fortunately, we did it.
Was it trickier than expected, given that everyone thought it would be a thrashing?
Not us. If everyone thought that, I can assure you that wasn’t the case for us. We know it’s hard to play here; Marseille has a good team, and they showed that during the match. We did more than enough to win by a wider margin, but we won 2–1. The most important thing is the victory.
You’ve surpassed Pauleta’s record for matches played for PSG; is that significant for you?
It’s hugely important—it’s special. He’s an iconic figure for both PSG and Portugal. So, I’m happy, even though I didn’t know about it.
Vitinha: “We’re playing catch-up in the league, so it was even more important.”
Some uncharacteristic misses from PSG?
It happens; the main thing is getting the win. We did that. Le Classique is special. We’re playing catch-up in the league, so it was even more important. Even when we aren’t at our best, we managed to create plenty of chances. We missed some, sure. But it’s positive—winning is what matters. We’re going to build on these three consecutive wins across all competitions.
Vitinha: “He’s flying right now.”
Does Ferran Torres have a magic touch?
I hope he keeps it up (smiles). He’s flying right now. It’s always important to have a player like that. We all have to give our best to reach that level—in terms of efficiency and quality. We’re very happy to have a player like Ferran, especially when he’s in form like this.
Vitinha: “The result is indisputable.”
Did efficiency make the difference tonight?
To some extent, but it was more than that. We created plenty of chances. I think the result is indisputable; it was a well-deserved win for us. Especially in the second half—even before the red card, we had quite a few chances. It’s deserved, and we’re really happy to have won.
