On Sunday evening, Parisians experienced the final derby of the season. Paris FC hosted Paris Saint-Germain for the last Ligue 1 match of the season. And after a rather dull match, it was the home side who emerged victorious in the dying moments with a score of 2-1. Pierre Lees-Melou, PFC midfielder, spoke to Ligue1+ about their victory.
Pierre Lees-Melou: “We absolutely couldn’t think we were on vacation.”
Did we have to do something exceptional tonight to close out the season?
The coach warned us he didn’t want us to be on vacation. And he didn’t give us anything in training this week; we worked like crazy. He wanted to finish strong, and I think he did just that, with the way things turned out, so it’s great. For our first season in Ligue 1, I think we’re having a pretty good campaign, and finishing against Paris is fantastic.
Was there also a desire to assert your dominance a little?
Yes, that’s it. We absolutely couldn’t let ourselves get carried away. He really emphasized that, and we played our cards right. We tried to press high up the pitch, and it worked.
