This Wednesday at 9pm (broadcast on Canal+ in France), Paris Saint-Germain (19th) take on Atlético de Madrid (27th) Parc des Princes as part of matchday 4 of the Champions League league phase. In a press conference, Colchoneroscoach Diego Simeone spoke about the match and the Parisian opponent.
Simeone “We’ll try to take three important points”.
“The Parisians have a lot of different options and change a lot of positions. PSG play a style of soccer that resembles Luis Enrique’s wherever he’s been.
I can’t imagine him playing any differently, and I can’t imagine the match being any different from what we’ve seen so far. We’re going to try and take three important points against a team full of young players and technical quality.
Simeone: “ We have to do our utmost to come close”.
We have to do everything we can to get close. But we’re in no hurry: it’s the start of the season, and it’s at the end that we’ll do the accounts.
Look, we have a few absences in defence, at the moment (César) Azpilicueta is injured, Robin Le Normand is absent due to a blow to the head, although he has adapted extraordinarily well, (José) Gimenez is suspended, and Marcos Llorente is injured…”
Simeone is understandably half-confident. There are major absences, but also doubts about scoring goals, and inevitably in the Champions League this can be problematic. He knows that PSG are strong in the game and that, despite what our media say, Atletico will be a great opponent. With a bit of luck, PSG can make Madrid explode.
Understandably, we can expect a tactical game from Simeone, who has no choice but to win to make his mark and restore his team’s confidence. That said, there’s no rush for them as they have a favorable schedule, unlike PSG who are approaching big games in the Champions League. The pressure will be on Paris.
