On Wednesday, Paris Saint-Germain took on Atlético de Madrid at the Parc des Princes as part of Matchday 4 of the Champions League 2024-2025 league phase. Diego Simeone, coach of the Spanish team, spoke at a press conference after the 1-2 victory (PSG/Atlético de Madrid video summary). He spoke of a Parisian team with immense potential, and the “ success” that went in his side’s favor.
Simeone “ They have an incredible future.”
“We knew we were coming up against a team that had already experienced Champions League semi-finals and a final, who play very well with very good players. They had six or seven players under the age of 24. They have an incredible future. We had a lot of forfeits in defence, five of them.
Simeone: “ At the end of the day, soccer is about success.
Success to win?
You remember the last game against Lille, you’re French, it was the same thing. We had seven or eight chances to score, but we couldn’t make them count. At the end of the day, soccer is all about success.
You can attack from all sides, but it’s precision that positions you in one place or another and gives you success. Against Lille, we weren’t successful and today, Paris were better, but we had the success we lacked against Lille”, comments relayed by RMC Sport.
As is often the case, it’s the opponents who have the most to say about PSG. The French media only have the negative in mind, as do many fans. We understand the frustration, of course, but there are some exaggerations.
It’s good not to forget that Paris was far superior in the game. It’s worth noting and building on. However, there are also things to correct.
PSG were beaten on efficiency, which is very frustrating, but of course that counts in soccer. As Simeone points out, the number of goals determines the winner. Atlético were better in this respect and therefore deserved the win. But Paris had every opportunity to do better thanks to the content of their play.
