On Sunday, Paris Saint-Germain took on Atlético Madrid at the Rose Bowl Stadium as part of Matchday 1 of the 2025 World Cup. Jan Oblak, the Spanish team’s 32-year-old goalkeeper, spoke to DAZN after the 4-0 Parisian victory (video summary PSG/Atlético Madrid). He spoke of a tough result against the better Parisians, but also of questionable refereeing.
Oblak “It’s hard to lose 4-0, but PSG were superior.”
How does it feel?
It’s bad for us. It’s hard to lose 4-0, but PSG were superior. At key moments, the referee’s decisions weren’t in our favor. PSG are the fittest team in the world and at the slightest moment they make life difficult for you.
In the end, they won 4-0 and with a 4-0 result, there’s not much to complain about. A 2-1 scoreline would have been good for us, but that was a mistake. There are still two group matches to go, it’s not over, we have to keep our heads up and keep playing.
Oblak “I don’t understand the yellow cards and I don’t understand the red either.”
Refereeing errors?
“Fouls may or may not be whistled, it may be a foul (on the cancelled goal) because I didn’t see properly. When VAR calls you and you look, you decide yes.
I don’t understand the yellow cards and I don’t understand Lenglet’s red either. It’s difficult to play PSG 11 against 11 and with one player missing. We’ve got to lift our heads, we’ve got to do much better and take the points.
