Paris Saint-Germain and Bayern Munich faced off this Saturday at the Mercedes-Benz Stadium in Atlanta in the quarterfinals of the 2025 Club World Cup. The match ended with a 2-0 victory for Paris (video highlights PSG/Bayern Munich). After the match, Bayern coach Vincent Kompany spoke at a press conference.
Kompany said, “That’s football, it’s all about the details.”
“We can’t say the boys didn’t play well. It was exactly the performance we needed. We were in the game, the team was good. There was a moment when we did what we needed to do. They made two mistakes and got red cards.
It was playable today (Saturday), but that’s football, it comes down to details. It could have ended 1-0 or 2-0 for us or for them, but it went their way. We need luck sometimes. We can’t control everything. It was an extremely high-level match, with very high intensity,” comments relayed by L’Equipe.
We can completely understand the Bavarian coach’s position and frustration. He can’t blame his players for “missing” their game, for being guilty of a lack of effort or concentration. This is the highest level; the match was decided by very little.
Bayern Munich posed real problems for PSG, and a Bavarian victory with the same level of performance wouldn’t be shocking. Except that the Parisians were more efficient, or had more success. That’s how it is; football is unforgiving, and the result of a match is difficult to control. It’s a fine attitude displayed by Kompany, who knows he can build on this performance going forward.
