This Wednesday evening, Paris Saint-Germain won 7-0 (video highlights PSG/Brest, 10-0 overall) against Brest in the Champions League 2024-2025 play-offs at the Parc des Princes. Here’s a look at some of the highlights and lowlights of the victory.
Tops –
Converted try
7-0, 10-0 over the two games, there will still be those who will denigrate the total Parisian success. We’re good in the Champions League, Clean Sheet, winning by outrunning our opponents, being realistic and showing great character, PSG were impressive and converted the try.
7 different goalscorers
Let’s not forget the decisive assists: Ruiz (2), Barcola (1), Ramos (1), Hakimi (1), Doué (1), Kvaratskhelia (1). In terms of scorers, there was something for almost everyone. 7 goals: 7 beautiful goals. PSG showed the strength of their collective, their determination and their will to play relentless soccer. Paris respected Brest and put their heads under water. A fine way to make an impression.
Neves/Vitinha/Ruiz
We have to mention them because they’re often criticized and recruits are called for because they’re “too light”. Perhaps we should ask our opponents what they think of Neves, who runs everywhere, Ruiz, capable of delivering for his opponents, or Vitinha, the indispensable regulator of this team. The defense was top-notch, the attack was top-notch, but the midfield was top-notch, as is often the case these days.
Flops –
A match that wasn’t highlighted by Canal
Of course, there’s an evening and other important matches, but this PSG match took a back seat. We’d have liked to see a post-match programme that highlighted PSG’s excellent performance. We’ll have to wait until the next game, against a top European club, when we’ll no doubt see more of the same.
A harsh scoreline for Brest
We can’t be happy to see Brest explode in mid-air. They would have deserved to score a goal or two, but that will help them improve. The problem is that nobody expected Brest to win, so the Parisian victory will be devalued.
