On Monday, July 27, Paris Saint-Germain officially resumed training at the PSG Campus to kick off preparations for the 2026-2027 season. L’Équipe surveyed the group present for the session—a small gathering, with only nine players working under coach Luis Enrique and his staff.

“Three goalkeepers and six outfield players following the day’s program”

This Monday morning’s session was more of a preliminary return for a handful of Parisian players, as there were more absentees than attendees. Two starters from the Champions League final—Russian goalkeeper Matveï Safonov and Georgian forward Khvitcha Kvaratskhelia—checked in for the first time this season. Joining them were Lucas Beraldo, Lucas Chevalier, Dro Fernandez, Senny Mayulu, and Illia Zabarnyi—regular squad members who were not involved in the recent World Cup. With the addition of Alessandro Longoni and Quentin Ndjantou, there were three goalkeepers and six outfield players carrying out the day’s agenda, which consisted of running drills and ball work.

A World Cup year is always unique, with many clubs staggering their return to training. PSG is among the teams most affected by this, and one might have expected more youth academy players to join the professional group for the restart. Perhaps some of the Titis (academy graduates) will get the chance to step up in the coming days and feature in the friendly matches scheduled for August 5 and 8 against Mallorca and Manchester United.

However, based on the club’s scheduled vacation periods (four weeks, or three for those who reached the semi-finals), PSG should see key players return relatively soon. Willian Pacho and Ibrahim Mbaye are due back this week, followed by Marquinhos, Vitinha, João Neves, and Nuno Mendes early next week, with Achraf Hakimi returning a few days after that. The World Cup quarter-finalists with France—Lucas Hernandez, Warren Zaïre-Emery, Bradley Barcola, Désiré Doué, and Ousmane Dembélé—along with champion Fabian Ruiz, are expected to return just after the friendlies but before the European Super Cup match against Aston Villa on August 12. However, it might be a bit too soon for them to play.

We hope to see new signings join the squad. The deal for Lucas Digne is reportedly already wrapped up; he will return at the same time as the other French internationals.
