Paris Saint-Germain legend Pedro Miguel Pauleta (211 games, 109 goals) is counting down the days to the Champions League final, which pits the Parisian club against Inter Milan this Saturday May 31 at Munich’s Allianz Arena. Speaking to PSG TV, the Azores eagle looked ahead to this final stage of Luis Enrique and his men’s season.
Pauleta “I want May 31 to be a historic night for PSG”.
How do you feel about the Champions League final?
“Paris Saint-Germain’s season is absolutely wonderful. And everyone is hoping it will end in the most beautiful way. We’re all so looking forward to this match, the club deserves to be in the final, the fans, the players, the staff, absolutely the whole club. I hope that May 31 will be a historic evening for PSG and for French soccer.”
Pauleta: “The club is the star of this team”.
What do you remember about the Paris team this season?
“It’s the collective that impresses me the most. I always talk about the collective for a team, that’s what counts the most in my opinion. It’s a pleasure to watch Paris Saint-Germain play soccer. There’s the quality of the game, but it’s also a team that’s coherent, that plays together, their state of mind is irreproachable. And it’s the club that’s the star of this team. As a PSG fan, that’s something that’s very touching.”
Pauleta: “We’re all going to keep pushing this team”.
Do you have a message for the fans?
“I know they’re always there, always present. But more than ever until Saturday, Paris needs them for this great final. I know they’ll always be there, and we’re all going to keep pushing this team, which so richly deserves this final, and we’re going to go for this trophy all together.”
PSG have had an exceptional season, which can of course already be described as a success. But just one match away from the Holy Grail, we can’t help but focus our minds on this match, which will enable the club from the capital to make its mark on its history and that of French soccer.
This team has seduced the footballing world with its game and its commitment. In every final phase of the competition, it has impressed and proved that a real team was in the making. After years of disappointment, it’s time for the Parisians to make their mark on history.
They deserve it this season more than ever. Luis Enrique, who has been at the helm of the team for just two seasons, has launched this European conquest to perfection, and this Saturday may well see the greatest success in the club’s history.
